Why We Built This

A message from the founder of Sprala.

Compliance broke me twice.

The first time, I was knee-deep in a PCI audit, managing evidence across spreadsheets and SharePoint folders, trading emails with an auditor who took three days to tell me my evidence wasn’t sufficient. Then another three days to tell me the replacement wasn’t either. Weeks of my life, gone. I remember thinking: there has to be a better way to do this.

The second time, I finally convinced my CEO to buy a leading compliance platform. And it was genuinely great — a massive upgrade from the spreadsheet hell I’d been living in. But I never heard the end of it. The cost came up in nearly every budget conversation. As the solo DevOps engineer and de-facto security officer of a company that had real compliance obligations, I was stuck: the manual approach was unsustainable, and the professional tools were priced for companies three times our size.

That gap is why Sprala exists.

I’ve spent 25+ years working in technology — as a developer, a systems engineer, a DevOps engineer & manager, an SRE, and an IT manager. Over that time I’ve taken six companies through SOC 2 or PCI compliance from scratch. I know what auditors actually want. I know which controls trip people up. I know the difference between a tool that looks good in a demo and one that holds up when an auditor is actually in your portal at 11pm the night before a deadline.

Sprala is built from that experience. Every check, every piece of remediation guidance, every workflow in this product was designed by someone who has lived on both sides of the audit table — not by a product team chasing enterprise contracts.

Sprala is founded and operated in California. Everything is built in-house — no offshore development, no outsourcing. The same security practices we help our customers implement are the ones we use ourselves, from day one. That’s not a marketing line. It’s just how we work.

“If you’re a startup trying to get compliant without breaking the bank or losing your mind, this was built for you.”
